I want to set up a DNS server because I do not want to register a domain with Network Solutions or some company. Are there any good tutorials?

There is a good one in the Tutorials & Tips forum here. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=236093

Setting up your own DNS server is not going to keep you from having to register a domain with some registrar. Without registering with a domain registrat there is noway anyone on ther internet will be able to find you domain.

Hi Cesar

Without registering with a domain registrat there is noway anyone on ther internet will be able to find you domain.

Exactly as hawkmage says; the one exception would be if you run a network and you want to have domains which are visible inside your network but not outside, and even then it's better to use subdomains of a real domain. Outside a networking class, there's hardly any point.

Kind regards,
Jonathan.
