Like the title says, I'm trying to upgrade to 12.04 from 11.10. It went through setting the new software channels and downloading the new packages. But then when it got to the "Installing the Upgrades" portion, it hangs. Here's the only output from the terminal.

Extracting templates from packages: 100%
Preconfiguring packages...

And that's it. Any ideas?

Hey! I'm having this same problem! I'd really like to know what's going on. :/

Update: I restarted the upgrade and let it go for 12 hours and it STILL says preconfiguring packages.

I hate to bump, but since I'm not the only one having the problem, it's at least a little justified. Anyone else having this problem or have any ideas on how to fix it without doing a total re-installation?

the solution is to use synaptic or the terminal with "sudo apt-get update"

I haven't tried Synaptic (will do so now), but I did try to upgrade from the terminal like you suggested, and it made no difference.
