1. no
2. N/A
3. My company doesn't allow use of any personal software or equipment for security reasons and shall remain unnamed.
4. Most instructors where I attend collage don't allow open laptops because they can't see what you are doing . That does not apply in a lecture pit.

At work it's a collection of assorted flavours of Windows, including XP and 7. Although it's tempting to fire up one of the machines with Ubuntu, for various reasons it probably wouldn't be fully appreciated if I did so, let alone install it.

Most of my colleagues aren't particularly tech-savvy, and are happy if they can do their emails, word processing, spreadsheets, etc, along with Facebook (for work-related networking, of course!)

Desktops are monstly Win7, some Vista and few legacy XP boxes. Have one Win2004 server for Quickbooks and 2 Fedora Servers and lastly one older SuSE server running IP tables. The SuSE server will be converted to Fedora for sure, but if I can pursade my boss maybe I can get Precise server on it. I just dont trust Fedora as much as he does. Then again he trust me on the subject as I have been using Linux more then 10 years longer then he has. So may get Ubuntu on it and if he likes it move the others to Ubuntu when the time comes.

1) Do you use Ubuntu at work or school?

Yes, but on my own hardware that I connect to the 'guest wifi'. I'm a teacher so my students use my Ubuntu netbook to access Web sites and play youtube maths videos sometimes in class. They have no idea what Ubuntu is, and they seem to be able to use it without too many problems

College is 100% Microsoft shop, Windows 7 on the client PCs, as well as Citrix thin client systems running a desktop with an XP look. Intranet covers most 'admin/business application' type tasks, but it is Sharepoint, and people are really using the Office integration. If MS push their Office365 cloud based office, then I can imagine being able to use a client computer running Ubuntu.

Work also happens at home, on the train and in coffee shops. At home, its on a recycled PC running Ubuntu. I can log into a Citrix type desktop.

2) Desktop, laptop, or tablet?

Yes, but laptop with Ubuntu

3) If Ubuntu is used as the main OS, and/or you're feeling particularly open today, where do you work?

Not relevant because the 'official' computers are Windows.

4) How many other people use Ubuntu in your office/classes?

Two chaps interested in Linux, IT staff know about Ubuntu, IT teachers cover GNU/Linux in their classes, and point students at Ubuntu as it is easyish to get working on a USB stick

hi samkostka, welcome to the forum. you should probably start your own thread for the distro question though (however my suggestions would be xubuntu, lubuntu, lmde, voyager, basic debian or for something more interesting archbang or crunchbang).

anyway, my answers are:
1) yes (at work).
2) Desktops laptops and servers (some of the servers do also run centos, redhat or solaris).
3) not feeling that open.
4) about 2/3 of my co-workers (about 250 of them), the rest use windows.

1) Not really; currently use Windows as I need spell check which wasn't working in Ubuntu (not sure if it's working now as I've done a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04)
2) Netbook
3) Thomas A Blakelock High school (*is a student*)
4) No one in my classes use Ubuntu, or any form of Linux, everyone uses some version of Windows or OS X/iOS (not many people bring computers there however)
