Hi

I run Xubu 10.04 LTS on my HP Compaq NX6325 and wanted to try 12.04. Rather than go for the upgrade I figured I would try it out from a live CD first. I'm glad I did! 12.04 doesn't boot on this machine. It doesn't show a menu (like 10.04 used to) to select language/keyboard options - it just locks up the PC with the hard disk light permanently on and the display shown in the attachment. There is no mouse and pressing keys has no effect, the only option is to power off. As far as I can see, my data & other OSs are intact.

The machine has 1GB RAM, btw, which should be enough. I am unable to verify what the downloaded ISO MD5 should be - but I did try two downloads. Both have an MD5 sum as shown:
52fddd81e75bb421a5435a42ca9ec6df xubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso
In the absence of an on-line MD5 I can only presume that this is correct. Both the ISOs I downloaded were done using torrent.

your downloads did have the correct md5;
you can find the xubuntu 12.04 md5's here:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/12.04/release/MD5SUMS
. like you, my install of xubuntu failed
but it had a bad md5:
xubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso
60949c087e28595c647f8f8f25df2a6a
-- I tried googling that, and it's nowhere .
. I wondered why xubuntu has 2 main downloads:
if you google xubuntu download, you get
http://xubuntu.org/getxubuntu/
which leads to:
http://torrent.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/precise/release/desktop/xubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso.torrent
. but if you try xubuntu from here:
http://releases.ubuntu.com/
you get to
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/12.04/release/xubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso.torrent
. anyway, I was able to get a good md5 from that download,
and I now have xubuntu installed in a vmware .
. with the bad download,
I could get mostly through install,
but when it asked me to create a root password,
entering a password would open the crash reporter .

I apologise for the ridiculously long delay updating this post. It was a bad download, as ubaddn suggested.

I find it annoying when people don't update posts so I don't want to be guilty of the same thing!
