I have just performed a fresh install of Precise alongside windows 7 on a Acer Aspire one that was previously running 11.10

I selected the Ubuntu root partition to install Grub>

When I boot the system I get "Error:No such partition" for any selection in the Grub menu.

Any suggestions how to correct this?

need to be installed on the MBR not LBR : if your hdd is /dev/sda, then boot on a livecd (liveusb) and perform:

sudo grub-install /dev/sda
sudo upgrade-grub

Thanks for the quick reply.

When I issue the command: sudo grub-install /dev/sda

I get: /usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for /boot/grub (is /dev mounted?)

Edit: I reinstalled Precise, selecting sda to install grub to.

Everything is ok now including win7

Thanks for the tip
