My AMD Athalon AM3 64x2 was running 11.10 with no problems, but I decided to install a fully new 12.04. I downloaded ubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.iso and burned a CD.

This version allowed me to run 12.04 live with no problems. So I moved to install, (after backing up /home) and I check both check for updates and install third party software. On reboot, there were no warnings or errors during installation, i received the message:

error: no such device: xxxxxxxx
grub rescue>

Directions as to where to find assistance would be appreciated.

No help with your problem but just a word. It is a really bad idea to include your email address in posts, screen-name or signature. ;)

My only other question, and out of curiousity: If 11.10 was working fine why did you upgrade? Was there a specific reason? Best to wait a month or two (some say until version **.**.1) before installing a new release.
