Hi all,

I am running 11.10 as my only OS, the update manager has started and I have 15 updates (not going to upgrade to 12.04LTS yet) However when I click on install updates, I get the following error failed to download packages, check your internet connection, the details are Failed to fetch http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/a/apt/libapt-pkg4.11_0.8.16~exp5ubuntu13.3_i386.deb Could not connect to gb.archive.ubuntu.com:80 (194.169.254.10), connection timed out

What is the best way to try another server?

open update manager

go to settings ubuntu software tab click on down load from , click other on the menu and choose the server close you way out click the check button

though its not necessary when I haven't had to reboot in a while I find doing a reboot encourages updates, exspecially if you have done many update with out rebooting :)

@jadtech

Thanks: worked for me, too. Never done anything like this before.

'Normal' repository had given me most of the updates but a few had not been accessible due to the timeout issue. Changing the repository to a mirror enabled the update to complete.

NB This is on 10.04, but presumably the repositories are on the same servers whatever the flavour of ubuntu.

But for me this does not work at all ! It stops selecting the best server and says that my internet connection is not proper. But I am sure about my connection. What to do? http://ubuntuforums.org/images/icons/icon8.gif

Expert attention needed here, I think.

What I wonder is whether the servers you're trying are too busy (mirrors can be busy, too) or perhaps too distant in some way (not necessarily measured in km)?
