Is it just me?

Hope it's nothing too major, today of all days!

Its flickering on and off due to high load.
Just get everyone to download from http://releases.ubuntu.com/12.04/ to avoid hitting the site.

Can someone please pin these links somewhere in the cafe so users can download even if the site is being hit?

Please download using torrents as well, and seed after downloading. cdimage site is getting hit hard as well, and some cdmirrors are not yet fully updated

Yep I get the same "offline" message.

It is due to the traffic of loads of people trying to get Ubuntu. (Sort of like why there are traffic jams at rush hour, or how you can't get close to an Apple store just before Apple releases a new product.)

They have put the cd images on multiple servers (called mirrors). You can go to one of the mirrors listed on a mirror list (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+cdmirrors) and download the files.

Better wait a moment longer with downloading not all files are on those pages yet you could be downloading just a part of the file.

Going pretty fast for me. 1.5MB/sec down, which almost maxes out my connection.

I do not understand the rush. The thing is going to be around for 5 years.

On the other hand I have been using 12.04 development branch since November. so, it is a bit old news for me.

Release Day excitement maybe?

I'm going to seed it for a while, methinks.

I'd say I'm avergaing 100kb/s :( although it did spike at one point.

EDIT: might be my connection though. I'm in the college library so a lot of people online.

Better than my home connection! I usually get closer to 77-80 kb/s with the occasional bump up to 100 before it drops right back down.

February for me, but, it is fun to watch all of the excitment. Personally, I'm just quietly waiting for the post freeze updates, to see if a couple things get straightened out. Overall, IMO, it's a really good release.

I like watching the excitement build but for some reason this release doesn't have the same "pizzazz" previous releases have had.

Although this seems true for many distribution releases so I am beginning to suspect it is due to a larger shift of the community, and not just Ubuntu (with users, the community and on the whole).

I didn't bring my laptop with me, so I am going to have to take my work laptop and see about downloading it during lunchtime ;)

I don't know if you've played with it much, but, I'll bet you'll like it.

I only use LTS versions at the office, so, that box has only had Dapper, Hardy and Lucid. I'll update that computer to Precise, at the first point release (7/19).

This copy has been on my home computer since Alpha 2, and though it runs fine, the perils of running a dev release have take their toll. I'll wait for the excitement to calm down, and then when I have time, I'll refresh this machine.

This was my first proper release date so I was very excited for the build up. Made myself wait for the final ISO :) I might alpha and beta test in the future though.

Good for you. A lot of people around here will tell you to wait for the final, but, I don't buy that. How do you know not to pet the "nice doggie" without getting bit. Trial and error are the only way you're going to learn Linux completely.

Just be sure you backup your Home folder (just your personal stuff, not anything that has a "." in front of it), and prepare yourself to read a lot about what to do (and not to do), and also be prepared to reinstall often at first, until you start to get the dev process down.

To avoid vapor lock, please do be sure you have something that works for everyday use. Either another partition with Ubuntu or Windows, or another computer.

My suggestion is to jump in at the Beta stage, rather than the Alphas. They are not for the weak of heart, or IMHO, users new to the development process.

Good luck, and have fun.

:)

Same for me, I discovered Linux with 11.04, in october. 11.10 was released a few weeks later, but I didn't upgraded, my PC's is too old for Unity. Although I do have 11.10 on my laptop, and I like it!
