I am installing Ubuntu on a very old Asus laptop for a friend.
I can do this with a very old CD from Ubuntu (Breezy Badger), but every time I use a cd (10.10 and 11.10 both tried) created by me on another computer, the install goes fine until the screen asking if I want to "Install" or "Try" Ubuntu, then everything freezes - the touchpad and mouse don't work, and I have to switch off!
I can't use a USB stick, as the Asus bios won't boot from USB.
Any ideas gratefully accepted!
