View Full Version : [SOLVED] kernal panic-not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown block(0,0)

cyrodil
April 25th, 2012, 11:38 AM
I have 3 OS Win7, and two 10.10 installs each on separate hard drives, not sure what happened to the grub entries or associated boot files or linux image on my previous 10.10 install but it won't boot from /dev/sdc2 but I do have a working system on /dev/sdb.

The output from bootinfoscrip is below, I can see the file system from my other /dev/sdb installation and from a liveCD but just can't boot it?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks.

I resolved this by the following:

sudo mount /dev/sdax /mnt sudo mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev sudo mount --bind /proc /mnt/proc sudo chroot /mnt
from LiveCD and running update-initramfs -u -k 2.6.35-32-generic, and then update-grub2 to fix grub entries.
