I am quite new in linux and ubuntu. I note that there is not to much problem to find solution in forums for the majority of my questions, but installing is already complicate.
Now, for example I have to install a program. To do it I have to follow the instruction below (anyway it will not work correctly):

1. Put the xbasic-$(VERSION)-linux-i386.tar.gz file in
' your / root directory.
' 2. Start an xterm window, then enter the following
' lines:
' cd /
' tar xfz xbasic-$(VERSION)-linux-i386.tar.gz

My problems star with step 1, How to put xbasic-$(VERSION)-linux-i386.tar.gz file in root directory?

Can someone help me??

Thank you!!
