I just upgraded the CPU in my laptop from an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.1GHz to a Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz with 4mb L2 cache and i want to see how much better it performs. I havent had much luck finding benchmarking programs for Linux, except for one called Hard-Info, but i have trouble understanding the results, plus the tests dont seem that thorough (they take like 5 seconds to finish). are there any reliable CPU testing programs for Linux?

for some reason i was under the impression that Phoronix wasnt available for Linux. Thanks!
also, does Phoronix have a database or something similar that i can compare results to?

Phoronix is all Linux focused.
The Phoronix Test Suite [http://www.phoronix-test-suite.com/] interfaces with the thousands of results on OpenBenchmarking.org [http://openbenchmarking.org/].
