How To Create User Interface Mockup/Concept?

Hello, i am new member here. I've seen many users create awesome mockup for Ubuntu user interface or for its application such as Nautilus. Nah, i wanna ask you how to create a mockup? I have only GIMP and Inkscape but i don't know how to. Anybody who ever do mockup, can you tell me how? Thank you.

hey! people are really quiet around here i guess. i make my concepts in photoshop but you can use a plethora of different editing software. i just use photoshop cause i am most familiar with it.

illustrator/inkscape are for vector graphics
