The Flash Barrier

I have looked around quite a bit and still had not found a good linux alternative for Macromedia's Flash (part of Studio). That is untill I ran across flash4linux.

I was wondering, I know it still seems early (the program is still in alpha state). But it is shaping up to be the best alternative for linux. Do you think this will ever hit the repositories for Ubuntu?

Opinions? Alternatives?

SD-Plissken, thanks for the equiv list (I haven't seen one that big yet), but the only two listed for flash animation is:

Ming -- A dev/C package for programming.
DrawSWF -- An SWF editor in EXTREMELY early stages. No timeline editing/effects/ActionScript support. It looks more like a basic vector/SVG editor at this stage.


flash4linux resembles that of the software released by Macromedia/Adobe with a timeline editor, ActionScript support, and some more advanced effects. It seems to be a more complete, more advanced project. I am not stating that DrawSWF could not become a better package, but it is not currently as advanced.

Being that flash4linux as you say is alpha. i don't think it will be added to the repos until it's stable. your bestbet is to test it, and file bug with the dev's of the program.

I and a few others had difficulty getting f4l working properly - see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=99738. If anyone does get it to work, please post and tell us how.
