I did a fresh install of Xubuntu on my laptop. My laptop is a Dell Latutude d400. I ran the update manager that prompted me to do an update. Now @ the end of the up date i get an error code saying that it couldn't delet certain items. Then after hitting ok, I tried downloading and installing 'nmap' but I got this error code instead:

I have the same problem. Installed Ubuntu 11.10 on an USB memory stick, running from the same. The problem appeared when I upgraded the system today. I did not try to install nmap, but I have the same problem with the linux-image-3.0.0-17-generic.
Sorry that I can't help, only confirm.
