Hi folks, this little trick worked for me so I thought I would share it.

Recently we had the double garage converted into a big room which I moved into but unfortunately people could not get a good WIFI signal from inside the house due to the garage being much lower and far away to the the house.

I was going to turn my spare router into a repeater but it does not support https://openwrt.org/ or www.dd-wrt.com both which turn cheap routers into $800+ routers.

So what I did was grabbed my spare wireless router and bridged it via Ethernet cable to my other wireless router(which is also my dsl modem) and climbed into the ceiling of the garage put it in there but the signal was still weak so then I proceeded to make a WIFI reflector out of paper, tin foil and tape and pointed it up towards the house.

IT WORKS, I CANNOT BELIEVE IT WORKS.
get this template from this site, http://www.freeantennas.com/projects/template2/index.html

The tin foil should go on the inside of the reflector (same side as the paper that holds it in place.

Also check out their many other home made wireless boosters http://www.freeantennas.com/

Hope this helps some one as much as it has helped me.

Good Day

hey 3djake,

i've used that exact template (the 'windsurfer') in the past and can vouch for the fact it works. a friend of mine uses openwrt to create a wifi booster router, which apparently works well, shame yours wasn't compatible. i'm planning on using openwrt with a spare router when i get the time, if it proves to be an interesting project i'll post something about it.

anyhow, nice to see the windsurfer in action.
ps if you want to go further a directional yagi antenna is also an option:

I, too, can testify that the ""Windsurfer" (http://www.freeantennas.com/projects/template2/")" works.

Cool! :-)
