View Full Version : [ubuntu] 11.10 - cant install graphic drivers for ATI Radeon HD 4570

Greetings everyone
I've installed a new Ubuntu 11.10 on a notebook with these parameters:
Acer Aspire 5738G
IC2D T6600 @ 2.2GHz
4GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 512MB VRAM
Partition size: 50GB

Everything else works fine but I cant seem to get the proprietary driver for the video card to work. This is what I see in system settings:

As you can see the installed driver is VESA: M92 which of course limits the performance.
I tried installing the proprietary driver. I see two of them in the Additional Hardware where they're supposed to be installed from and I activated one of them:

When I try to install the other one I get this:

After activation and a restart the installed driver in system info is still the VESA M92.

I tried a guide using a text install where I downloaded the .run file from the ATI website and installed it manually but its still not working.

Can anyone give me an idea or a working guide on how to get this done?

We're not mind readers here ... your last screenshot clearly tells you to look at a log file.

If you post the results of that here, perhaps we can help.
