I am not sure if this is the kind of place for this kind of stuff, as forums generally don't allow "ads" or promo posts.

EDIT: I think I am going to make this a weekly thing, and "unlock an item" every Tuesday, or whenever I feel like living dangerously.

4/24 - Game Night (http://saveasawesome.com/103/comic/game-night)
4/24 - Build v 2.9.g.q (http://saveasawesome.com/102/comic/build-v2-9-g-q)
4/17 - Lunching Outing@Office (http://saveasawesome.com/101/comic/lunch-outing-at-office)
4/10 - How To Reboot Your Life In 5 Simple Steps (http://saveasawesome.com/100/comic/how-to-reboot-your-life-in-5-simple-steps)

The story is inspired by the first few year of my life as a college grad and 20 something. It's going to be about change, the transition from waking up only after lunch to showing up at the desk everyday at 9:00am, and how easy to grow old but never grow up (aging is mandatory but maturating is optional).

There will be nerdy/geeky stuff, rainbow and dinosaurs, zombies, video game references, literary nonsense, scott pilgrim-esque art, but no unicorns. Unicorns are evil.

The site itself is in PHP. I decided to go with CodeIgniter with this one. I used jQuery for all the javascript stuff, but I did write that parallax animation thing because I wanted to. Choice of linux distro for server is OpenSUSE. I prefer yast for its simplicity.

Oh yeah, and here is the link - saveasawesome.com (http://saveasawesome.com/)

;)

While I can't say I found the comics particularly funny, I can say that I love the artwork and really like the site design.

I really liked how it felt "interactive" (pictures moving slightly on mouseover etc..)

Looks cool!

You have got some good talents there, would like to see something to backup your unicorn theory though!

Good luck.

I really like the parallax (fake 3D) thing that I made. I am really worried about the load time and bandwidth. The average page size is about 1.2mb and can take up to 10s for first time visitors to load. Not to mention touch event is not supported. ipad/android users are missing out.

That's about all the geeky stuff, and the only things I know how to improve/fix. I do hope there like a repo or patch I can add and automatically gives me +5 humor&funny.

How about a web comic about making a web comic?

Or about yet another real life versus MMORPG life like "The Noob" comic portrays.

We could also use more minecraft web comics :V

I do want to integrate RPG elements into the comic, I mean, I do play video games :-)

I really don't get what minecraft is all about, though.

Er, I just assumed that was glitchy browser rendering at first, especially on the body of the comic itself. Can't say I like it, but it does make the site a bit different.

You mine. You craft. Minecraft, it does what it says on the tin.

I like that a lot .... the story line may not be funny has some have said - but I do
not think it was intended that way ..... to me it appears based on truthful single user
interaction ....

Going through the stages that are described there - the insecurity on both sides - male
and female ....

The work situation .... you may only have done a quick check on facebook and at the
precise moment a boss walks up and catches you - just before something major in
your life is going to take place ..... fate .... or plain unlucky.

The story is great and I liked the movement .... works well .... anything that gives a tad
of 3d to a scene .... would be good if you could make the things furthest to the back move
the most and scale it down as it comes forward
( just looked again and the title is done that way - great )
.... good idea not seen it done on any other sites ....

It will work better on faster computers with good graphics .... found it boring looking
at a static scene after that ...... keep trying things out .... good luck with more like
it .......

nope... that is just a flaming typo. It should be corrected by now

in my defense, my inkscape doesn't have spell check... anyone know how to get that to work? It seems I will have to install some gtk stuff. I am running KDE as my default desktop.

That is great and the graphics actually inspired me to have a go - but mine is no better ...

and the thing is your artwork is consistent ..... adding anything different would not fit in

But I could orientate things in 3D for you to give perspective and angles if that was what
you was worried about ......

Any rough mock up of a car could do this and using Blender and a technique I found .... here

http://matthieu3d.free.fr/TutoVira1/tuten.html

You can quickly create cartoon looking ..... views ...... this is very rough ..... but shows the
technique used from here ...... use of 3D models and orientation may just help .....

But do not spend ages on it as 3D takes some time to do ......
I use wings3D to rough models up with first .... then transfer into Blender .....
any 3ds model will pull into Blender though ... so you do not have to create
anything as many models already exist ..... you maybe only really need a few background
scenes or items .....

https://sites.google.com/site/blenderlearn/assignments/project042

Hope it helps or gives you some more tools to help - but what you are doing is great.

That looks really cool! Actually when I started this project, I thought about building 3D models instead of vector art because, well as an engineer, I like solutions that can be reused and generalized...

I wish I knew about that tool a bit earlier, like 6 months earlier lol... I have actually started this a while back, but life is being a jerk and keeps distracting me. So, I finally decide I am just gonna give it a go :-)

Keep working at it .... amazing how quickly things progress ..... and keep a record somewhere so you can recap on what you did to achieve things - maybe others can learn something from it too ...

Simple things can often get people up and running quicker ..... and as you said knowing about things sooner can save extra effort ....

Looking forward to the next part ....(3)

Thanks! By the way, I made two posts today - 4/24 Game Night (http://saveasawesome.com/103/comic/game-night).

I like the curved whiteboard and the drop shadow in the cartoons ..... sound can be added - I saw the music symbol and thought that is the only thing missing .... the odd quiet but small sound - like the guy writing on the whiteboard .....

A quiet relaxing tune in the background - but sounds can be toggled on or off - size may be a problem as music always seems to carry a lot of Data with it .
But it becomes another challenge .... not that you do not have enough of these ...

Imagination / Ideas .... all new things add to a overall experience and my thoughts are always to where things will lead next and how they will improve is upto what can be done with our own imagination and skill in the future.

Look on Diaspora .... some good talented people on there and the animations (https://diasp.org/tags/animation) sound and code that seems to be used nowadays are getting a lot better .....

Look forward to more .... they should get easier ... ;)

Every other animator and artist inspires the next into trying other things too ....
its reciprocal ... IMHO ...
