Why is 32-bit 'recommended' at the Ubuntu.com page? (for 10.04.3) ???

It is due to the fact that 32bit ubuntu will run equally happily on 32 and 64 bit computers whereas 64bit requires 64bit architecture to run.

So 32bit is in a way the universal choice which is usable by everyone regardless of their architecture.

***edit*** the latest revision is 10.04.4LTS which is available here: http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/

Starting with 12.04, 64-bit will be recommended over 32-bit.
