In preparation for Precise, I would like to know if it's possible to do a release upgrade, but leaving all your data behind, practically ending with a system with a brand new installation, rather than an "upgraded" one.

The server in question I'm trying to do this is a headless server, it's currently running 11.10, and I have no physical access to it. My idea is to simply get it back to 0 with 12.04 LTS, with only the minimum settings that could allow me to manage it remotely.

I do have the option to do a reinstall from 10.04, but the people at the datacenter are going to charge me for it, so that'd be my last option if I can't figure out a way to make hit myself.

Thanks in advance.
