I just installed proprietary drivers for my HD 4650 by following this guide http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1444738 and this guide http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1664919. I tried setting it up both ways and tried my own combination of the two but I still get an incredible amount of lag with I use some compiz features like the desktop cube and window fades.
Also, when I enabled Desktop Cube, all of my other options were disabled. I was able to get them back by restoring compiz to default settings but it was something odd that happened that might relate to the problem I'm having right now. My windows also no longer smoothly fade in and out of the menu bar. They simply pop up and pop back down.
As far as I can see, the drivers have been installed correctly. I just ran Nexuiz and I got 160~ FPS compared to the 30~ I was getting from the open source drivers.
Can anyone please help? I'm getting smoother performance from my single core 1.6ghz netbook... (This desktop has an i5-2500k and an HD 4650)
