This command:
wmctrl -r :ACTIVE: -e 0,10,730,1300,200
works fine on a window containing gvim or cream but not on a window containing gedit or pluma. I thought wmctrl was giving orders to the window manager. Why does it matter what ap is in the window?

This is under Oneiric with Mate, so my window manager is Marco which is Metacity renamed.
