I have the ubuntu-11.10-desktop-i386.iso on an external disk formatted FAT and when I try to set the BIOS to use that it does not allow it. This is accessing it by holding F2 as the machine is switched on.
I can post more data such as processor type if necessary (I don't have the computer right here as I write).
