Glad you like it :)

In KDE you mainly just have to use the "get hot new stuff" dialogue. If you have a .zip file then extract it and look for its folder in ~/.kde or something like that.

I believe that's a plasmoid script you can get from kde-look.org:

Should be in the "get new plasmoids" menu.

It's a plasma plugin, so you'd either need to be running plasma or someone would have to port it something else.

Hi :) Thanks to you and to other members who said they like it :)

That bottom panel is combination of xfce panels and conky.., There are 4 panels and 2 conky..
First one panel witn menu, places, and 3 launchers, then conky, then panel with 7 launchers, then panel with windows selection, notification area and indicators, then conky with weather, clock and date, and finaly panel with shutdown, shutdown timed script etc..

That background of panel was done by me, and it is image in first conky, all panels are transparent, and so is second conky...
I have been playing with conky for long time, so this is where I'm now :)

My first screenshot of the month. I have done a complete wipe and reformat of all my main hard drive's (note: my OS drive) partitions. And I have finally replaced Windows XP with Windows 7. In addition, I ditched Ubuntu 11.04 and have installed 11.10 in its place. I'm far from finished with Ubuntu, as I still have some apps and KDE Plasma and its mods to install. So here is my first screenshot of my Ubuntu 11.10 running GNOME Shell.

Full-size screenshots here:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/viperdvman/ScreenshotUbu12.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/viperdvman/ScreenshotUbu12m.jpg

As you can see, I have at least most of my old Mac OS X look back. I had to look through plenty pf GNOME Shell themes to find the right one that comes close to matching Ubuntu's Radiance theme. I really wish someone would make a Radiance GNOME Shell theme like they have with Ambiance. And I have found a way to get the GNOME Shell Activities menu to show from the AWN Dock using a simple launcher applet. It involved installing xautomation so that I can use key commands in the terminal, which is how simple launchers in GNOME 2, AWN, other docks, Cinnamon, etc work. Then in the launcher properties, I placed this in the Command line:

xte 'keydown Alt_L' 'key F1' 'keyup Alt_L'And viola... Activities menu activated from an AWN launcher :) The downside to this, though, is that I highly doubt I can use it in Cinnamon (which I do have installed on my desktop). But I'll have to try it next time I run Cinnamon

Computer: Desktop
Distro: Ubuntu 11.10
Desktop Environment: GNOME Shell
Shell Theme: Radiance Slick (from GNOME-Look.org)
GTK Theme: Radiance Yellow (from ppa:ravefinity-project/ppa)
Window Theme: Radiance Yellow (from ppa:ravefinity-project/ppa)
Wallpaper: custom Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword "Skyward Romance" wallpaper
Icons: Humanity Colors Yellow (from GNOME-Look.org)
Special Features: AWN with Light theme and "Curved" style ; GNOME Shell Activities launcher in AWN (the Ubuntu logo)

Did some final touch-ups and installed new theme.

Theme: Mediterranean Night "both gtk3 and metacity"
Icon: Faenza Ambiance

Both of which are on www.gnome-look.org

Fine tuned my conkys as well.

Showing: Clean desk, dirty desk, applications menu and windows menu.

A lot of people complained about Gnome3 being hard to get around in but the addition to the hot-spot corner around the activities button makes popping over to the windows menu a snap. After turning the minimize button back on and just sticking it in the left corner of metacity I find getting around Gnome3 faster then Gnome2 was..

I wasn't finished with my GNOME Shell desktop when I posted my first pics of it yesterday (link here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11823588#post11823588)). The link also shows how I got the GNOME Shell "Activities" Menu to activate from the AWN launcher.

Full-size initial screenshots here:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/viperdvman/ScreenshotUbu12.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/viperdvman/ScreenshotUbu12m.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/viperdvman/ScreenshotUbu12a.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/viperdvman/ScreenshotUbu12m1.jpg

Full-size screenshot of my old GNOME 2.32 desktop here for comparison:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/viperdvman/Screenshots/ScreenshotUbu11b.jpg

Not bad at all. It's very close to the appearance of my old Ubuntu 11.04's heavily modified GNOME 2.32 desktop. Other than adding a couple of items to my AWN dock (System Settings and Terminal), I changed the color of the Ubuntu Logo to match the rest of the Humanity Colors Yellow icon theme. I also added a few Shell extensions to remove the user name from the top panel, navigate the Activities menu by hovering, and remove the favorites dash from the activities menu. These are extensions are part of Linux Deepin's long list of GNOME Shell Extensions, which can be downloaded here (link here (http://alllinuxstuff.blogspot.com/2012/03/install-linux-deepin-gnome-extensions.html)). I'm still not sure if I'm finished with tweaking the hell out of my GNOME Shell, but I do have the Shell theme I like.... Radiance Slick is as close to Ubuntu's Radiance theme as it gets :)

Computer: Desktop
Distro: Ubuntu 11.10
Desktop Environment: GNOME Shell
Shell Theme: Radiance Slick (from GNOME-Look.org)
GTK Theme: Radiance Yellow (from ppa:ravefinity-project/ppa)
Window Theme: Radiance Yellow (from ppa:ravefinity-project/ppa)
Wallpaper: custom Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword "Skyward Romance" wallpaper
Icons: Humanity Colors Yellow (from GNOME-Look.org)
Special Features: AWN with Light theme and "Curved" style ; GNOME Shell Activities launcher in AWN (the Ubuntu logo)
GNOME Shell Extensions: Hide Username Extension, Hide Dash Extension, Deepin Enhanced Alt-Tab Switcher, Workspace Navigator Extension, Alternative Status Menu Extension, User Themes Extension, Window Overlay Icons Extension, No Click Navigation Extension

Yes, I am using a dual monitor setup with Windows as I always have, but not with my Linux distros (still experimenting with that). I'm running the default Windows Aero Glass theme, only I changed the glass color to red. The Mario Galaxy wallpapers can be found all over the internet. Nothing really special, but it works for me.

Although Windows is the computer's primary OS, it's my secondary OS next to Ubuntu :p

Took a few times bouncing back and forth between different versions, but I think I've settled on this one for now.

Ubuntu 11.10
Classic Gnome
Cairo-Dock
Background - Animated, using Vdesk with a few different Windows Dreamscape videos, usually this one, Hyperspace

Obviously never really took to the Unity side panel, and finally figured out how to move things to the old school Windows taskbar look.

Haven't booted back into XP dual boot in...a very long time. Don't want to think about the updates that would hit me. Haven't gotten the nerve to move everything over and claim the XP partition as Linux space yet.

That's my Dell laptop, and my current wireless card is not supported by trisquel. I'm going to change it for other more free software compatible. Wireless and 3d graphic cards are the most 'problematic' hardware. Fortunately, there are sites like thinkpenguin (https://www.thinkpenguin.com/) that sells compatible hardware.

Nice Desk. I'm using Caledonia too. The great thing is that it stays black(ish) so the white texts on top all are always readable. That's not the case with the black fonts on the standard Oxygen panel. Text becomes unreadable with darker wallpapers there.

Notice you got Compiz working on Xubuntu. Not had much luck there - any special tricks needed?

Thanks
Dave

No special tricks Xubuntu 11.10 just installed and setup as usual. I installed compiz from synaptic package manager, checked all extras except the kde stuff.works good no problems

Well, here's my KDE setup from when I still had Ubuntu 11.04 (yes, I installed KDE on top of Ubuntu... not running Kubuntu). Note: These are older screenshots, thus not current. Ubuntu 12.04, Unity, GNOME-ish Dark theme with Emerald theme Black Frame + Awoken White Icon set + Conky-Colors Graphite theme + Background from the video game Limbo = VERY VERY DARK THEME
(the two freakin' icons at the top panel kinda ruin this monochrome theme :P)

Panel is transparent, panel background belongs to conky :)

Thing is simple, is global.. You just create several panels (in my case 3), postition them, put items on them, set background to transparent, activate conkys.. :)
conky is optimized for 1920 pixels wide... :)

other conky with weather is a bit more complicated, since it had external scripts, but I will post that is someone needs it to :)

I've been redirected here by a helpful moderator.

Actually this wasn't meant serious, but the funny thing is that I got used to it quite fast and now I'm really thinking about keeping it.

Easy to use and lightning fast, even on my netbook. I call it "Poor Man's Unity".

http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/9273/sunity2.th.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/641/sunity2.png/)

And no, it can't compete with those beautiful KDE screenshots, and it only uses a standard installation's pictures & designs.

Yes, but regardless of whether one "likes" unity or not, all the screenshots start to get boring in all the same ways.

Thanx...

My son loves bugs and had me looking up pictures of insects on Google Images, lol. Saw that and thought it was an amazing pic.

I attached thumb of it, hopefully it saves at proper size... I think the pic is around 600 x 800 but it applies nicely as wally.

Cool. The Squeeze default wallpaper is awesome :) I istalled Squeeze + XFCE on an old pentium III ... no modern OS will run fast on that machine, neither does debian. But it's quite impressive still, I imagine it must fly on (a little more) modern hardware.
