Welcome to the forums.
Which version of Lubuntu are you trying to install? Does everything work from the live CD or are you not getting that far?

OK legend here you go. This site will walk you through the installation. At what point does yours fail? By the way did you download the image?

11.10 should not need the work around. You should be able to install it without all that other screw around stuff.

you think it has something to do with the hardware on that system?

No what I am saying (and I have to admit that after I reread it I wasn't clear) if you want to install it click install. If you want to try it, do that. I believe that the bug that was in 11.04 has been corrected in 11.10 so you do not have to do the work around.

You need to be more specific about your problem.
Do you get to 'install lubuntu' and then you get a black screen?

What laptop do you have exactly? (model number)

Now I am starting to wonder about the CD. When you downloaded the image files did you check the MD5Sum and burn the image at the lowest possible speed. You may have a bad download or a bad burn. Alternatively you can try making a bootable flash drive to boot from.
