I'd like to know which way is executed when I type the following command in the terminal
sudo apt-get install python-matplotlib
Is it pip or easy_install??

Your best bet to have up to date packages is just to use pip or easy_install in the first place.

You might want to take a look at this post on using virtualenv, yolk, and pip..

I do not believe it is either. Here is the terminal console output :
