If I look in some application, they are named .386 in the end of the name. Does these work if I have a 64-bit 11.10?

For instance Zapping are booth types listet, but in wine, there are a lot of lib, that end with .386

/Cheers

Some 32 bit programs will work on 64 bit machines . It would not install unless compatible . I found this out by selecting a 32 bit instead of a 64 bit package by mistake from the software center . There was a notification and the installation was aborted .

The 64-bit standard is backwards compatible, meaning the you can still run 32-bit apps. Generally speaking, if you have a 64-bit system, then you want to run 64-bit apps. However, some programs (like wine) do require 32-bit libraries for compatibility reasons, you need those libraries to run 32-bit windows programs.

The basic rule is, don't install 32-bit things unless they are automatically pulled in or you know for sure that you need it.
