Hello,

This is a brief note to mention a scam I have come across. DOMAIN REGISTRY OF AMERICA sends letters - I will post scans of the letter I received later - which appear to be an official notice of some sort that you "...must renew your domain name to retain exclusive rights to it on the Web ... Failure to renew your domain name by the expiration date may result in a loss of your online identity..." and giving a bill for $35.00 to renew the domain name.

A quick bit of Googling turned up a few threads on their company:

I made a phone call to them (1-866-434-0212) to ask how they came across my information, and the woman I spoke to was very curt and cagey, so I closed the conversation ("You should be aware that there are many articles on the web about your company being a fraud. Good luck with that.") and hung up, then posted this thread.

Hopefully, nobody here actually sends them a check.

This isn't something that belongs here.
