I am renting a VPS that is running Server 10.4.3 LTS.
The default set up it came with was a Root log in.
I created a user so I don't have to log in as root anymore but I need to add that user to the sudoers list.
I don't want to have to su into root but use sudo instead.

I need sudo to install a script to install rutorrent as well. I don't think running it as su will create the directories in the /home/user space that are required for it to properly run.

Is there a simple way to add a user to the sudoers list? I have no physical access to the server everything is done via ssh and the cli.

One of two thigns you can do.

1. As root you can (assuming your username is john):

usermod -aG sudo john

This adds you to the sudo group and gives you sudo access when the server has default sudo configuration.

2. Add your user account to the sudoers file:

nano /etc/sudoers

john ALL=(ALL) ALL

If sudo isn't installed, well then, umm idk :))
