I've installed 11.10 on the following machine:
Toshiba Satellite 2455
Pentium 4 2.4 GHZ
512 MB RAM
BARTPE-8681 video (this was my best guess from the info Windows gave me)
I have no problems when I boot from the 11.10 CD in "try it" mode. When I boot from the install on my hard drive I get:
-a black screen
-the word "ubuntu" with some dots under it blink on the screen for maybe a second
-the screen goes white
-eventually some black splotches with various color vertical lines show up
I've tried to troubleshoot the problem using the instructions in the "Graphics Resolution-Upgrade/Blank screen after reboot" post (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1743535). I'm unable to get into rescue mode at Step 3 (see error below):
GNU GRUB version 1.99-12ubuntu5
grub> rescue
error: unknown command 'rescue'.
I'm totally new to Ubuntu/Linux so I'm probably doing something really stupid but I can't figure out what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
