I wanted a virtual desktop which would recreate my virtual environment on my host machine. I installed today and fought with nomachine nx and also freenx. I got the same error i.e. gnome desktop starts and immediately fails with a network connection closed error. I could not get this to work by playing around with the fonts.
I then tried the preview nx 4 which now worked perfectly. Interestingly enough a remote player, on either linux or windows
will create a new gnome environment on my host machine. I can now connect to this environment either via vnc or by no machines player. Seems to work perfectly and is what I was looking for
