I have come over recently from windows where i used a music mixing programme called mixmeister.

Does anybody know of anything similar on ubuntu. It basically did all the hard work of mixing music tracks together.

I'd recommend you try out Audacity, which can be installed like so (via a terminal):

sudo apt-get install audacity

This should also be a good read:

Best of luck!

Depending on how complicated your needs are, you might also like ardour.

there is nothing in the UNIX ecosystem that will give you the features that
mixmeister provides.

however i did get it working in wine.

mixxx (http://www.mixxx.org/download/) comes to mind

while mixxx allows one to DJ digitally, there is nothing out there like mixmeister.

mixxx is like traktor, seranto, dekadance, or virtual DJ

mixmeister allows one to create traditional mixes in a daw like environment.

the closest thing would be app's like ableton live where live mixes are the point,

but mixmeister keeps the traditional DJ paradigm while giving you a d.a.w. environment.

there's nothing else like it, not in the UNIX, Windows or Macintosh world.
