Hello! My boyfriend and I are both IT techs, and we both have admin accounts in Xubuntu 11.10. The few times we've installed Oneiric Ocelot on the same dual core Pentium (series that came out about three years ago) Lenovo Thinkpad, after a few days, in both of our profiles, the top bar of our windows, including the window titles and maximize/minimize/close buttons disappeared. We got this in both the 32 and 64 bit versions of Xubuntu 11.10. Both times, we installed off of Xubuntu disc images.

The previous time we installed Xubuntu 11.10 (64-bit) on a two CPU, dual core each Xeon machine, we initially installed Ubuntu 11.10, and then when my boyfriend decided he didn't like Unity (I don't like Unity either), we installed the Xfce packages. The UI bug on the Thinkpad never happened on the Xeon server.

Surely someone else has had this problem?

Please help!

If it's a straight Xubuntu install, maybe you could try reinstalling xfwm or even the whole Xfce environment...
Might fix it up.

If it's Ubuntu with Xfce installed in it, you may need to activate window decorations in compiz. You can just check it in Compiz config settings mgr... That happened to me after I installed Compiz and Metacity in Xubuntu 11.10.
