Currently I feel my desktop looks a little boring, or acts a little boring. Is there a way that I can spice things up to make it more visually appealing? I am using Ubuntu 11.10 and using Unity. Also, is there a way to remove the stupid borders on the Unity launcher and just have the grey icon it's self? I'm currently using compiz with all of it's effects including Wobbly Windows, animations, animation add-ons(those are fun). As well as Desktop Cube.

I don't use Gnome 3.2, because I cannot use Compiz on it, and I am rather partial to all of my windows animations and effects. Here is a screenshot of my current setup.

Check into Screenlets and Conky . There is a good Conky thread in the Community Cafe.

I like my grey icons, that's why I chose them. :P. But, I will check out Conky, I already have discovered screenlets, but would need to find better screenlets.
