Doing some research for my 19 year old son, he is currently taking networking technician and A certificate and was talking to him about linux. He is interested and am wondering about study material and getting a linux certificate. He is a computer techi so should do well with it. Thanks in advance.

If you gonna do a linux cert I would suggest sticking with Red Hat.

Certifications are always a good thing in IT. I have various Linux certs myself that have served me well. Redhat is a good one to have but having others such as LPIC and Linux+ can only help. Linux+ and LPIC are distribution neutral certs and are good for general linux knowledge and competency. Redhat is a good choice for a distribution specific cert.

It seems that LPI has partnered with CompTIA and Novell and made some changes since I took the exams so that if you pass the LPIC-1 exam you also qualify for the Linux+ certification and the Novell CLA certification (and vice-versa).
