View Full Version : [ubuntu] Installed MATE, now getting linuxmint updates

I added the linux Mint repo so I could install its MATE environment... It installed, loaded up, and is exactly what I want.

Problem is, now I've got all of the updates coming from the linuxmint repo for things like grub, x11, and other misc things not related (that I know of) to that desktop environment.

Is it best, now that I've got MATE installed, to just disable the linuxmint repo, so it doesn't try to update anything?

Other options?

Thanks!

Yup, I'd do so. ;-) It's the same as with some other PPAs out there, offering much more than what you actually want - once you've installed what you want from it, just disable it; but occasionally check for updates to the packages you've installed from it.

Regards.

Reflecting about winh8r's link, I assumed you were meaning MATE's dedicated repos, but now it seems you are not. :P

Definitely the way to go!

It's a shame that most of the top Google hits for MATE + Ubuntu are pages that suggest installing from the Mint repository, which tends to get very messy. It's much. much cleaner to use the official repository (winh8r's link).
