I downloaded 11.04 and burned a DVD, but I cannot get the DVD to boot. What do you suggest?

What actually happens?
Have you set the DVD drive as first device in the boot priority?
How did you burn the DVD; as an image or a data disk?
What is your hardware?

Make the iso file and try to boot it from usb.

when I try to open the DVD with autorun I get an error saying "cannot find autorun program." So I re-installed autorun but got the same thing.Opening folders from the DVD gives me more folders and I get nowhere trying to boot from the various folders. I think I downloaded ISO image. I've download twice. I guess I can try a third time making careful note of what I am downloading. Maybe I should put the image on a CD vs the DVD.

CD vs DVD will make no difference. When you burn the CD or DVD you must burn it as an image so that the burned disk contains several folders and files, not just the single .ISO file, which is where I suspect you are going wrong
