I just installed 11.10 twice and did a few things to configure it.
I'm not sure which of these caused the problem for sure, but here are the common things that I did:
1. Manually Download/install/Configured the ATI Driver http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
After install, ran command: sudo aticonfig --initial
Reboot
2. Ran automatic script for Droid-Tether-SV at This Website (http://www.humans-enabled.com/2009/12/how-to-tether-your-verizon-droid-as.html) to be able to run internet from my droid phone.
3. Let updates run
What didn't work to fix this: This Link's instructions (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1863698)
I can boot to recovery mode and "login" to my account in a command prompt, but that is the end of my abilities. Help anyone?
