I plan to migrate from Fedora 8 ccrma to Ubuntu 12.04 Studio on a HTPC, occasionaly used for making music.

Is it possible today to use powersaving featueres (SandyBridge, Intel Core I3 2100T ) in an installation based on Studio 12.04 at all ?

If I understand http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1824459&highlight=kernel right kernel does not differ anymore compared to regular ubuntu-desktop.

Are there further steps I had to undertake to enable powersaving in Ubuntu Studio for everyday HTPC-use or would that not make sense ... ?

Thanks

If you are doing anything that requires low latencies (that is you want to listen to what you are recording as you are recording it) then you don't want to have power management enabled.

Unless Ubuntu studio has specifically disabled power management things like CPU throttling should already working.

I can see value in having powermanagement on most of the time but switching it off when you are recording music.
