Hi,
I recently received an old laptop, it runs windows ME and I can't seem to get it to boot ubuntu! I've burned the image to a disk, booted it from the CD drive and it says that I can't do it! The error I get is:

No bootable device(s) selected
strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility

I've tried booting it from a USB, using wubi (computer too old), making a virtual CD in MagicDisk and booting that and NONE of it worked!

Please could someone help me?

Thanks in advance,
Nat

Are you sure that the CD drive works? Can you see files on a CD from Win ME?

I know a method which doesn't require any extrenal bootable media all you need is a hard disk.

Have you enabled the CDrom as the first boot device in the BIOS?

What is the CPU speed?
How much memory does the laptop have?
Does the CD work on another computer?
What version of Ubuntu are you using?

You could try the Alternate install Cd as the hardware requirement are less for that.

Also try Lubuntu (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/lubuntu/releases/11.10/release/)

Good Luck
