:) thanks I think. it's hard to read because I have transparency set so high. and they aren't emerald borders. they are just plain old Mire v2 Gray xfce4 borders. they come with the Mire v2 GTK theme.

My first screenshot of the month. I am posting one of my test runs of Ubuntu 12.04 Beta. I've been running it purely as a non-persistent LiveUSB session, as I have no plans to install it to my empty 3rd partition.

Full-size screenshot here:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/viperdvman/Screenshots/ScreenshotUbuPrecise1.jpg

I haven't really done much with the desktop other than add a Mario wallpaper to it. Yes, I am finally using a wallpaper from my all-time favorite video game series... even if I'm only using it for a non-persistent LiveUSB session. Who knows, it could foreshadow future themes.

But I am liking running Precise so far. Even though I've only tested Unity 2D, I've only run into a couple bugs, mainly with the Unity 2D launcher and with Pidgin (app-specific, not Ubuntu-specific). It's a beta, after all. More testing to come (on both my computers), and possibly more Precise screenshots.

Oh dear - I only meant that the Conky looked weird because its top margin was offset (same as the Launcher.) So it was just the panel weirdness, but on both sides. You didn't need to change anything, and I definitely didn't mean to have you end up reworking your Conky / wall arrangement. = o

Heh! No prob, bro! I like redoing my desktop!

BTW, my production web server crashed. That's why the pics disappeared, for a while. I've had an ongoing, on-again/off-again, problem with the DNS server for months. Anyway...

I played around with the opacity, blurred the wall behind Conky, added a feather-edged border, and darkened it up a bit.

That's sexy, man. The blur and border are really subtle and make the Conky look extremely slick and well-integrated into your layout.

I didn't bother changing the CCSM setting since typing in "emerald --replace" in the terminal only resulted in: segmentation fault (core dumped). Windows didn't have any decorators. Not sure what the error is about. But I'm getting off-topic in this thread.

Quick screenshot of the just-released Linux Mint 12 LXDE edition. I'm only trying it out on a non-persistent LiveUSB. I haven't done any major tweaking to it, other than changing the default theme and wallpaper to one of the ones preloaded with Linux Mint.

Full-size screenshot here:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/viperdvman/Screenshots/ScreenshotLMintLXDE1.jpg

Sticking with the green theme that's characteristic of Linux Mint. I also changed the menu icon to the Linux Mint logo, which I prefer over their little sprocket they use for the menu icon. I like the fact that is is one fast as hell desktop environment. However, I like running Enlightenment better (Bodhi Linux). Give it some time, learn LXDE, and I might like it enough... lack of eye candy aside. It's great for at least having a traditional desktop.

Distro: Linux Mint 12 LXDE edition
Desktop Environment: LXDE

So, Radiamentary, the GTK theme I use, had weird little curvy white arrows for the range sliders that lit up white when hovered, which didn't match anything else in the theme. Tweaking this for the GTK2 was more complicated than I expected (in the GTK3 theme, it was just a pixmap) but it's nice that things match. Lights up blue on hover like the buttons, too.

It was a Google image I found using 3D wallpaper as a search term and is now missing . I ran it trough Tineye and the results only had 1024 x 768 . That is the same size I am using .

Grazie.

I'm just interested in seeing what kind of customization people have been able to achieve with Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity, and maybe improve mine with different themes, etc.

Here is a picture of mine to start with.

Here is another

Very nice desktop. I assume that's one of the ACYL icon themes. But what's the GTK theme and Window theme you're running? I like the gothic look of it all ^^

^My experience is probably the reverse. I used awesome before scrotwm/spectrwm. With awesome, I got sick of my configs breaking with syntax changes every upgrade , so I ditched it and went back to Xmonad for a while (more comfortable with haskell than I am with lua), before testing out scrotwm. Was a pain to build at the time (source didn't have a dedicated linux folder/makefile like it does now ) but it sorta has this balance about it that I like. Kinda like a lighter Xmonad. Haven't really looked at any other WM ever since.

I do plan to give i3 another try when I find time one of these days. Never really gave it a proper chance first time round.
