Having only recently come back to Ubuntu from Win7, I just realized that the Ubuntu Software Center doesn't include stuff from PPAs because everything in there has to be approved. Wow! I guess that makes the Software Center pretty useless to me, especially for looking up stuff from PlayDeb.

I guess I'll just use Synaptic. It's too bad. The Software Center looks pretty sharp.

I try to use as few ppa's as possible. they're not supposed to be the norm, rather the exception.

right now i'm on lucid, but i only have the libreoffice and google talk/earth ppa's.

I think there ought to be made a sticky of essential ppa's and how to add them. ppa's are important, especially for people who run LTS versions of Ubuntu.

And clicking on them shows me the packages in the PPAs.

So...?

Sweet. That's why we have the forums. So we can learn things. I did a search for something in All Software, and it didn't show up. But when I clicked that down arrow and chose GetDeb, it showed up in the search. Too bad everything doesn't show up in an "All Software" search.

Thanks for pointing that out.
