Just noticed the MoBo is 'Open Box' so it doesn't come with the default cables... I can get them easily enough though, ah'thank you radio shack.

Alright after poking around I realized... DERR This motherboard doesn't even have a Serial port! so, no serial modem...

The 64bit processor isnt a big deal now. It will run 32bit apps fine if you have a 32bit OS

I have a amd 64 and was using 64bit ubuntu, but at that time things like flash and w32codecs were unavaible for 64bit, not sure the current situation. But your 64bit should run 32bit ubuntu and all programs fine.

The celeD isnt your run of the mill celeron, you want to avoid celeron if possible. They are fine chips, just not for the real performance minded people.

That system looks pretty good to me.

Yea thats what I had in mind about the Celeron... But my selection of affordable Procs with decent reviews it really limited... Other then the Proc right now I'm pretty happy with the choices. I'll work on finding a better one that tolerated this mobo. My only real specification is that this mobo accepts it and it's under or around 100$ (again veeeeery limited price wise... I'll upgrade later though, this motherboard looks pretty tolerant.)

Alright Updated the proc on the first post to a nice P4 (by nice I mean fairly cheap with 4/5 ish ratings in reviews, a few claim it's great for gaming as well with overclocking potential.)

could you not go for a amd for that at all because personally i would spend a bit more on the cpu as that is probally going to be the thing you have for years.

I didn't really plan on AMD, though I do like trying new things, Intels my old baby I just have some kind of strange bias. And I know I'll be eaten alive around here for sayign that mos of you guys are probably AMD junkies =P

what I'm really after now is a 56k internal modem that will work out of the box... Other then the Video card I'm looking for as much out of the box hardware as possible.

Picked an external seral modem that should work(?) See first post.

With the intel/amd deal only you can really decide dependant on budget. I got my amd64+cheap mobo for 140ish on sale. But it is old technolgy and not going to be real updatable. Thats what you should look out for if you want to update it later, What would be easiest? That I dont know since I havent researched it alot lately.

Ordered the case! A tad concerned that I couldn't afford FedEx Shipping UPS has never been kind with electronics. Also Kind of sucks that I only am starting with 512 ram... but as this has four DDR2 Slots I can mix and match as I can afford it... possibly just ending up with four 512s.

As long as you got it from newegg you should be fine, their support is excellent, My video card messed up a few weeks after i got it and they re-imbursed me shipping back to them no questions asked

For sure, newegg is my master. Might be getting the MoBo next monday, possibly the Video card. The MoBo is Open Box though, strict return policy, and no extras such as cables, But I can live I want some hawt cables anyway as the case has a window.
