I was so stupid to cancel an installation of ubuntu 11.04 64 bits. When I started a new installation after I shut down the computer I got error messages as ECC(error correcting codes) error 8000 error on sector 14999292 (or something). After another such message the screen was filled with dots. It seems like it's checking the hard disk sectors(or does it?). It's been running in 4 days. It's a rather big hard disk of 750 Gb, so it could take some time.

So my question is: Is there any reason for concern?

hmm, I do not belive this is going to be productive at any time.

Checking hard disk of this size could take some 20min or even an hour, but not 4 days.
What you see is some kind of crashing and something running in circles.

Stopped installation is often more trouble, so start all over and let it finish the work before you switch it off.
