Ubuntu 10.10: Update Manager Not Working: Authentication

Hi. I'm on Ubuntu 10.10

The Update Manager is failing.

When I press the "Authenticate" button either nothing happens or the dialog box shakes back and forth....before nothing happens.

Any ideas what this is about or how to fix it?

One option is to do updates from CLI or second to update your system from synaptic.Let us know do you have same troubles with that solutions.

I've been doing the old school apt-get update, apt-get upgrade without problems. I would just like to get the Update Manager working again. Basically, pressing the "Authenticate" button does nothing and the dialog box just hangs there.

It didn't help though.

I even did a complete removal and a fresh installation via synaptic
