Gimp 2.6.11

I have 2.6.11 of GIMP. How do I upgrade to the newest version?
Is it 2.8?

Thank you for taking the time but that version and it's development is unstable.

I tried www.gimp.org and didn't have much help either as that is still 2.6-

The latest stable release is 2.6.12. Gimp 2.8 will hopefully be released later this year.

I've been using the 2.7 development version for the past few months and I find it quite stable.
