I am sharing folders off Ubuntu machines, over my very secure private network, to my XP machines.

I have been pulling my hair out for a day trying to get various folders to share properly.

In XP, just share, and boom, the folders are ready. Not in Ubuntu. The share on the xp machine only lists the files, but I cannot see the jpgs, execute the exe's, or open anything. I cannot get into the sub folders.

It is telling me it is applying all the permissions (recursively). I see permissions on every file I need. Read and create. But certainly, no read is possible.

Sharing the xp ntfs folders seems hopeless, so I copied to the ext4 hd. Shared, looked at permissions. But nothing.

I got only two folders to share files. The rest seem dead.

I got to be missing a step, type of permission needed, or likely 12 steps as is usually the preferred case.

Hi degarb,

How are you setting up sharing, are you using Samba (https://help.ubuntu.com/11.04/serverguide/C/samba-fileserver.html) or something similar?

Hi degarb,

Some folders share fine. so not a samba issue. permissions, but what?
