My father in law, has only access to mobile 3g network for internet access.

This means that access is a bit slow and expensive for large volumes of data.

He is using Ubuntu (my idea, and he won't go back to windows again) and loving it, but he wants to upgrade to the latest version.

So my quick questions are:

If I download the 11.10 DVD it will install and upgrade, right?

What can I do for getting the current updates for 11.10 into a CD or DVD and upgrade the packages from that DVD/CD instead of ap-get update/upgrade through the internet?

Hi right now your uncle what version he is using , you can make a safe upgrade if he's using 11.04 only else make a fresh install .
(dont forget taking IMP data back up before fresh OS or Upgrade installation )
and for offline updates use this link

i htink you can use alternate CD to perform upgrade.
DVD won't be much different from CD (though new verison will be DVD only). i think it only has more language pack on it
