i cant close my lid

so iput xubuntu on my laptop and it works great but the only problem is that i want it to be set up where i can close my lid and nothing happens. it just turns off the monitor and all is peachy when i reopen the lid. well it appears that whenever i close the lid when i open it back up it the display goes all wonky and freaks out. if theres anyone with idea then thank you

My experience is that this is a case by case thing, depends on the laptop, depends on the version of Linux you using.

I used to have a laptop (Its soul may rest in peace) that would have lousy ACPI on Ubuntu 6.04 then it did great on 8.04, horrible on 8.10, would work decent on Debian 4 then decent on 10.04

This one works horrible on Ubuntu 10.04 but works great on Linux Mint12
