I cannot access the Google Scraper www.scroogle.org (http://www.scroogle.org) anymore.
It appears that it has gone up in smoke?
I really would like to know what is going on.

Does anyone know?

HMm// I don't know what is going on.

But, in the mean time you can use DuckDuckGo (https://duckduckgo.com/). Don't be fooled by its name. It is a powerful search engine with great privacy settings ;-)

Just searched around..

and who knows if it has anything to do with the following news:

Did Google Just Disable Privacy-Friendly Scroogle? (http://www.betabeat.com/2012/02/14/privacy-friendly-scroogle-disabled-by-google/)

Scroogle: Dear Google, we're not bots, we're HUMAN (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/02/14/scroogle_down/)

Google is Blocking Scroogle - says they are a Bot (https://secure.dslreports.com/forum/r26795603-Google-is-Blocking-Scroogle-says-they-are-a-Bot)

Scroogle may be shutting down (http://forum.prisonplanet.com/index.php?topic=170601.0) :(

Its OFFICIAL now:

Scroogle Founder Pulls The Plug, Closes Website (http://www.ghacks.net/2012/02/22/scroogle-founder-pulls-the-plug-closes-website/)

Scroogle unplugged for good this time (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/02/21/scroogle_dead/)

Well, I guess now the [great] alternatives are DuckDuckGo (https://duckduckgo.com/), Ixquick (https://ixquick.com/), and Startpage (https://www.startpage.com/)

Google did not like Scroogle, mainly because Scroogle actually had a privacy policy which was just that, a PRIVACY policy. Google on the other hand have something they call a privacy policy but is actually a carefully worded document that basically says if you use our services we reserve the right to collect any data we want about you, by whatever means at our disposal and once we have it we will decide how we use it in order to give you what we think is the best "user experience" for you.

RIP Scroogle

I use https://startpage.com/ and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good replacement for Scroogle.

Just tried it. How do you exclude a phrase on Duck Duck Go?

I don't know.

But, playing around it seems that the "-" sign do its job.
As an example:

Search for DuckDuckGo without the mention of Google (https://duckduckgo.com/?q=duckduckgo+-google)

I use https://www.startpage.com/ these days.
Have the feeling it is quite ok.
